Hidden Play

A new Mamas and Papas table to allow children to interact within their parent’s living space.

Play area products tend to be restricted to playpens/mats. The child isn’t always encouraged to explore its surroundings openly. Mamas and Papas only have a limited selection of products that cross into the area of ‘playpen’ and playpens aren’t ideal as they create an enclosure that restricts the child.

With this in mind combined with the shortage of domestic living space within family homes, space for ‘luxuries’ such as playpens are becoming less and families use what space they have to accommodate growing children. Parents are therefore less inclined to buy nursery furniture that intrudes their own space.
Interaction and play are vital to a child’s upbringing. Unfortunately with smaller domestic spaces a child’s chance to explore the world is being limited.

Therefore it was necessary to design a piece of furniture that integrates the child’s play space into the adult’s living space.
