It’s Alive!
Symbolising eccentric invention.
The two roles of inventor and designer have very differing connotations and abstractions that
make it hard to define what each is. Therefore it was necessary to design an object that examines the difference and relationships between designing andinventing through the symbolisation of eccentric invention in order to re-appropriate the notion of invention through design.
“It’s Alive!” pays homage to the theatrical nature of invention reminiscing of films such as Frankenstein where the ‘mad inventor’ is portrayed as on the brink of his latest creation. Symbolising this notion of eccentric invention “It’s Alive!” draws directly from the aesthetical nature of such films with its bare functionality and mechanical features. It gives the user a heightened sense of awareness as they activate the switch and the light drops from the ceiling making it ideal in bringing a new sense of understanding to the mundane.
